Summary:
In 2003, the same year I graduated from university, my plan was further my education in a flight school and eventually become a pilot; however, that plan was put on hold when I received an invitation to represent my hometown school district as a teacher in Shiki City, Saitama, as part of a sister-city exchange. I agreed to stay for one year, but enjoyed my time in Japan so much that I ended up staying for two. In 2006, I finally learned to fly airplanes, but due to the poor job market in the aviation industry, I opted to spend more than two years working in an office at the University of Cincinnati. During that time, I realized that what I wanted more than anything was to be in a classroom--any classroom--be it as a teacher or a student. I missed traveling and I missed education, so in November 2009, I traveled back to Asia, this time to South Korea, where I spent the next two years teaching English in a special, English-only, public elementary school. I returned to the States three weeks ago (mid-December 2011), and I'm already trying to figure out how I can get back to the place I miss most, Japan. My preference is Tokyo, but I'm open to living and working in other parts of the country, as well.
